Best Time to visit Manali

Summer Season (March to June): This is the most popular time for the 3-day Manali tour package from Delhi. The weather is pleasant with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C, perfect for sightseeing and adventure activities. Solang Valley is accessible, all attractions are open, and you can enjoy paragliding, zorbing, and cable car rides. The landscape is lush green with blooming flowers, making it ideal for couples and honeymooners. However, this is peak season, so expect higher prices and crowds, especially in May and June.

Monsoon Season (July to September): While monsoon brings beautiful greenery and fewer tourists, this period is generally not recommended for the 3-day package. Heavy rainfall can cause landslides, road blockages, and limited visibility. Many adventure activities in Solang Valley remain closed during this period. However, if you’re a budget traveler who doesn’t mind rain and wants to experience Manali’s serene monsoon beauty with significant discounts on hotels, you can consider late September when rainfall reduces.

Winter Season (October to February): Winter is magical for the 3-day Manali trip, especially for couples and snow lovers. October and November offer pleasant weather and clear skies with fewer crowds. December to February brings heavy snowfall, transforming Manali into a winter wonderland. Experience snow activities, enjoy hot coffee in cozy cafes, and witness snow-covered landscapes. Rohtang Pass remains closed during these months, but Solang Valley offers excellent snow activities. Carry heavy woolens and be prepared for possible road delays due to snow. This is the second-best season after summer.

How to Reach Manali from Delhi

By Road

Manali is approximately 540 kilometers from Delhi, and the road journey takes 12-14 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. The route passes through Karnal, Ambala, Chandigarh, Bilaspur, Mandi, and Kullu before reaching Manali. For the 3-day package, many travelers prefer overnight Volvo buses that depart from Delhi around 6-7 PM and reach Manali by 8-9 AM, saving both time and one night’s accommodation cost. Volvo buses are comfortable with semi-sleeper or sleeper berths and cost ₹1,000-2,000 per person. For families, private cabs or tempo travellers are recommended for comfort and flexibility. Private cab costs range from ₹10,000-15,000 one way depending on vehicle type. The journey is scenic, especially after Chandigarh, with mountain views and roadside dhabas serving delicious food. HRTC (Himachal Road Transport Corporation) also runs regular government buses at affordable rates.

By Air

The nearest airport to Manali is Bhuntar Airport (Kullu-Manali Airport), located about 50 kilometers from Manali town. However, flight connectivity is limited with only a few flights operating from Delhi, especially during tourist season. Airlines like Air India and Alliance Air operate flights when weather permits. The flight duration is just 1.5 hours from Delhi to Bhuntar, followed by a 1.5-2 hour scenic drive to Manali. This option is ideal for the 3-day package as it saves travel time, giving you more time to explore. Flight tickets range from ₹3,000-8,000 per person depending on season and booking time. From Bhuntar airport, you can hire a taxi (₹1,500-2,000) or arrange pickup through your tour operator. Note that flights can be cancelled due to bad weather, especially during monsoon and heavy winter, so always have a backup plan. For family packages, flying can be more expensive but significantly more comfortable, especially with children and elderly members.

By Train

There is no direct train to Manali as the nearest broad-gauge railway station is in Chandigarh, approximately 310 kilometers away, or Pathankot, about 325 kilometers from Manali. However, there’s a narrow-gauge railway (toy train) from Pathankot to Joginder Nagar, which is scenic but doesn’t connect directly to Manali. Most travelers prefer to take a train from Delhi to Chandigarh, which takes 3-4 hours, and then hire a taxi or take a bus to cover the remaining 310 kilometers (7-8 hours). Popular trains include Shatabdi Express and other super-fast trains. From Chandigarh, you can hire a taxi for ₹5,000-7,000 or take HRTC buses (₹300-500 per person). This option works well for those who want to break their journey and explore Chandigarh as well. For family packages, the train-plus-taxi combination offers a good balance of comfort and cost, but adds complexity to travel planning.
